Lapland

David Hay Jones is a photographer and writer based in Porjus, Swedish Lapland, and the United States. He specializes in science research, climate change, industry and technology, natural disasters, and the wildlife and landscape of sub-Arctic Lapland.

In recent years, Hay Jones has documented Hurricane Katrina, flooding of the Mississippi in Iowa and Illinois, and tornadoes in Indiana. He works throughout Europe and the United States. The remainder of 2008 and most of 2009 will be spent on three book commissions for American publishers.

     Hay Jones is the author of 'Night Times and Light Times: A Journey Through Lapland' (Penguin, 1990). He published and edited the best-selling 'Words of Fire, Spirit of Grace' (True North, 2003). He was the photographer for 'Journeying Through The Days 2002' (Upper Room). Hay Jones' articles and photographs have been published in hundreds of magazines and newspapers throughout Europe and the United States. In the past year, his photographs have been published by the BBC, New Scientist, the Financial Times, the European Space Agency, Encyclopaedia Britannica, the Guinness Book of Records 2008, and the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution.

     He is an alpine and cross country skier, and a runner, logging 75 miles (140 km) most weeks. He competes regularly in 5 and 10k road races.
