OSL exclusive: Bugatti Veyron spotted in London's Bond Street
OMG! Look, it's a Bugatti Veyron (the world's most expensive car). Spotted by Giles Devos in London's Bond Street
London's Bond Street in the exclusive district of Mayfair is where the world's top designers and jewelers have boutiques. Armani, Prada, Alexander McQueen, Jimmy Choo, Cartier, Graf, Louis Vuitton, Max Mara -- all can be found along Bond Street.
It is also where you will find some of the world's wealthiest fashionistas, whether it's billionaires from the Middle East, owners of Premier League soccer clubs, their players and wives, pop stars such as Madonna, or top bankers, and self-made millionaires.
You not only have to be rich but seriously stinking rich to own a Bugatti Veyron, the world's most expensive car. This white Bugatti was spotted by OSL's Giles Devos as he shopped for shoes in Burlington and Royal Arcade.
Two hundred Veyrons have been built and delivered since production began through 2008. Fuel consumption is 5.82 miles to the gallon (U.S.). Price tag? Oh, you might be able to pick one up for $1,550,000.
London's Mayfair, like Manhattan and Beverley Hills, or many of the Middle Eastern countries, houses a huge number of millionaires and billionaires.
In a short walk across Mayfair, from the Ritz Hotel near Buckingham Palace, up along Bond Street, and in the streets leading into Grosvenor Square, home of the American Embassy, you will see many of the world's finest and most expensive hotels, designer boutiques, restaurants and homes, where rents and property values are among the highest anywhere in the world.
Before their divorce, Madonna and Guy Ritchie could often be seen in the area. Ritchie, who owns a pub in Mayfair, is still around. The Duke of Westminster, the biggest landowner in Mayfair, has a family fortune was estimated at $6 billion.
For lesser mortals, Mayfair is an ideal place to improve your appearance. A bespoke, i.e. unique suit made to to your measurements and requirements, can be had from one of Savile Row's tailors for about $5000. A pair of bespoke shoes can be purchased from George Cleverly of Royal Arcade for about $4000. Handmade shirts are a more manageable $400.
And you can be fitted for a handmade walking stick, umbrella, raincoat, or hat, all at a reasonable price if you consider the crafstmanship and quality you are buying.
