Birthday girl Katie Couric is hot at 53
Katie Couric is a rare commodity, a superstar television news anchor and sex symbol who for years has outshone such big names as Paula Zahn, Deborah Norville, and Diane Sawyer. Couric is often accused of being a lightweight, but she almost single-handedly brought down VP candidate Sarah Palin in three devastating interviews
Katie Couric, sexy lady in black
As the world's leading Katie Couric site which has always had a soft and hard spot for Ms. Couric, we know about the massive public interest in her, especially her trademark legs. The fascination with Katie dwarfs the interest shown in other well-known and equally qualified women anchors such as Paula Zahn and Deborah Norville.
Once, back in the day when web hosting companies severely limited the amount of bandwidth and disc space you used, we were shut down for two weeks because we were getting far too many Katie Couric hits. Katie was on her way to CBS and we were getting six million hits a day.
We should have been making a lot of money but we were punished for being too successful and the hosting company simply closed our site for 14 straight days. We were furious but it did get our site its own Wikipedia citation.
Why is Katie so popular? What's her appeal? To men, the answer is obvious. Katie was the only woman on morning tv who had sex appeal -- not just mild, harmless sex appeal, but in-your-face flashing of bare legs in high heels, the shoes often dangling from Ms. Couric's toes as she interviewed this or that dull guest.
To millions of men, Katie Couric was always bigger, better, and more important than the people she interviewed.
Guys would go nuts when the camera zoomed in for a head shot, pulling away from Katie's gorgeous tanned, oiled legs. Often, Katie would show so much leg, even a glimpse of her panties, that the cameraman was forced to change his angle, and Katie would be asked to rearrange her legs and skirt.
During interviews at the Olympics, Katie would sit atop a tall folding chair, legs crossed in a tiny skirt. She'd wear pretty heels or sandals and be interviewing some bronze medal winner in synchronized swimming or jumping in sandpits, and we would want that interview to go on forever. It was all about the legs. Who cared about the Olympics and medals for running and jumping? Katie was our hero. She was pure gold.
When Katie moved from morning television to the CBS Evening News, we feared the stuffed shirts at CBS would repackage her, attempting to make her more serious, which would mean less, or no, leg. We feared the introduction of the dreaded vanity board in front of her desk: an end to crossed legs; no more high heels dangling from a rocking foot; no more slight tugging of the skirt to make it half an inch more respectable.
We were proven right of course. There has been less leg in recent years, which probably explains Katie's ratings plunge.
The latest event in the long-running public love affair with Katie is her new hairstyle, which we feature on this page. Love it? Hate it? It's certainly not sexy Katie. Perhaps it's part of yet another push by CBS to promote her career as a heavyweight news journalist.

Sharon, Kansas City, Missouri: Katie Couric is phenomenal. She's a role model for men and women. She combines a smart sexiness with utmost professionalism. Katie is more that 50 but her legs are lovely, her choice in oufits is classy. She is one of the most beautiful and talented women on television.

Sam, Tulsa: Katie you are a disgrace. Now I hope you can live with what you had a huge hand in creating [the election of Obama]. I just wonder how long it will take you to switch your view and start picking at the eyeballs of Obama like the evil vulture you are. What you did to Sarah Palin was disgusting. You are obviously a woman full of pent up anger. It will be fun to watch you unleash it on Obama when he is not able to come forth with all this change
he so talks about but never identified.
Dean, Lafayette, Louisiana: I am so sick of this liberal crap the media is all about. They are all so one-sided. They ask democrats what is your favorite color and ask the republicans what is the atomic weight of beryllium.
Al Brantman, Wisconsin: Katie Couric is the best. No one will ever beat her style or intellect, beauty, or class.
Anita, United States: I am 76 years of age and have followed Katie Couric's career for many years. She is a highly intelligent woman and certainly does a wonderful job. The interview she did with Sarah Palin was terrific. It was insightful and she asked very easy questions that Sarah Palin should have been able to answer if she had any amount of intelligence. Katie has always been a great interviewer and should be given more of these pieces to do. Whenver she is on I make a point of watching her show. Lets have more of these.
