| 10 vital facts
about president-elect Obama
What
is the cabinet? What does it do?
|
Janet
Napolitano for homeland security
Two-term Arizona
governor Janet Napolitano, who was elected to her second
term by a landslide majority, is a member of Barack Obama's
transition team.
She is tipped to be
given a top cabinet job, most likely homeland security or
education after Eric Holder was named as Obama's pick for
Attorney General.
Napolitano is a
former state attorney general and former U.S. attorney for
Arizona, so she would have been an excellent choice for
attorney general.
She's a popular
Democratic governor in a red state that borders Mexico,
which boosts her homeland security knowledge and
credentials. Napolitano is strong on law and
order. She is also a firm voice on illegal
immigration and education.
She was the first
woman to chair the National Governors Association. She received her
Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School.

| Napolitano
Endorsed Barack Obama, Disappointing Hillary Clinton
Endorsing Obama on January 11,
2008, Napolitano said: "I think we need fresh voices
and fresh messages of unity and coming together. I think
he's a new young voice who has new appeal, particularly for
those of us in the West... As good as Obama is at motivating
a large hall, he's as good or better one on one."
Napolitano: "I
place a great emphasis on preparation and knowing my subject
before I speak. People of both sexes respond well to someone
who is prepared and who has thought through a difficult
issue |
Napolitano: "I
admire women who take charge of their lives, instead of
having their lives take charge of them."
Napolitano: "Here's
what I've always looked for in a leader: intelligence,
thoughtfulness, the ability to articulate a position in a
persuasive manner, integrity, and the willingness to take
hard positions and stick with them. |
| Napolitano:
"The thing I have learned as governor is that once a
decision is made, you have to move forward: you can't keep
revisiting everything all the time. Things move fast. You
have to keep pace and you have to lead." |

| What's
Being Said About Janet Napolitano
THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC: "Arizona didn't get a
Western White House out of this election, but it might get a
Cabinet member... Gov. Janet Napolitano, named to
President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, is
considered a candidate for attorney general and other
high-level jobs. She's earned it." |
THE
ARIZONA REPUBLIC: "If Napolitano joins the Obama
administration, it won't be merely a reward for her support.
She's a smart leader with law-enforcement background,
knowledge of the challenges states face and experience with
immigration and international trade. And she has succeeded
at establishing herself as a popular Democratic governor in
a Republican state."

| NAPOLITANO
AND PALIN ON CHARLIE ROSE
For a head to head comparison of governors Palin and
Napolitano, go to Charlie
Rose's website where he interviews them together. Palin
answers "energy" to every question. Napolitano
exudes quiet confidence. |
Will there be a job for Hillary
Clinton? All the talk suggests it's Hillary for
Sec. of State, which we don't like. Obama does not need
Hillary, and he doesn't need Bill. This could be Obama's
first blunder, and it might be massive. |

|
| What
does the secretary of homeland security do?
The Secretary of Homeland Security is the
head of the Department of Homeland Security, which is
responsible for protecting the nation and its citizens. The
secretary is a recent addition to the cabinet following the
terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001.
|
Why
is Janet Napolitano a good choice for homeland security?
Napolitano is governor of a border state with a detailed
insider view of immigration and homeland security issues.
She is a skilled attorney who also has a passion for
education matters. She is a close and trusted advisor to
Barack Obama. |
