Sandy writes: "What Palin proves is that any mom can be a leader. All this stuff about lack of experience is bogus. If there's a crisis, all she needs to do is ask Petraeus, do we nuke 'em or help 'em. End of story. She gets my vote. She Christ's candidate, that's clear."

Maud writes: "As hard as I struggled to resist even getting into this conversation, it was that much harder trying to come up with the one single word to describe those don't get that SARAH PALIN IS A JOKE. And suddenly, I realized the word is "delusional". Sadly, it's just not their fault."

BC Virginia writes: "This woman is dangerous and John McCain is even more dangerous. This is the person that will become leader of the free world if McCain, who is 72 years old and has a long history of cancer, dies? WOW! This is really scary. Please people please wake-up."

Sierra Club Patti writes: "If this woman doesn't scare the lipstick off of any pit bull, they're tougher than me."

Max Moore of Los Angeles: "I love Katie Couric. She is back in the bigtime. She made Sarah Palin look like a small town hockey mom lost in the big city. What was John McCain thinking of?"

CJ writes: "Sarah Palin should be put in a pail and sent back to Alaska smoking. You people can't see this woman is a empty shell and clueless. She would be one step away from the presidency, and I don't know about you but I always thought individuals in that position should be intelligent. People are overtaken with her because she is a women, but she is not the best choice for this country. Don't be fooled by the caribou in heels and glasses."

Max Moore of Los Angeles: "I love Katie Couric. She is back in the bigtime. She made Sarah Palin look like a small town hockey mom lost in the big city. What was John McCain thinking of?"

Melody Wood writes: "Oh my goodness! I didn't expect genius, but I didn't expect it would be this bad! Haven't her handlers taught her ANYTHING? A 7th grader would know better than some of these answers."

Deborah writes: "I am a Canadian. I  find it shocking that anyone in America could defend Sarah Palin in anyway. She is absolutely not qualified. It is so sad."

Carolyn writes: "Katie, you're are the one who looked stiff and like a jerk with Sarah. Why can't you put your bias down and just interview her. She came out ahead."

Andi Peake of Washington Now: "The garbled attack on elite culture and Ivy League education is but thinly veiled racism aimed at discrediting the Obamas. African-Americans are being told by the McCain-Palin team, 'We do not value and recognize your qualifications'. It is a slur on all Americans, the vast majority of whom would love to study at Harvard, Yale, or Princeton. There are specific reasons why the University of Idaho, for all its merits, does not rank as highly as Harvard in academic comparisons."

Athina Simonidou of FrICTION: "Katie Couric has millions of adoring fans. She's unfairly criticized for being lightweight. We saw in this interview how she lulled Sarah Palin into a false sense of security. Couric deftly allowed Palin to make a fool of herself. It was masterful."

Marie writes: "Sarah Palin in office would be a total disaster for the United States. It's like watching a baby that's trying to walk, but they just can't seem to balance their self on two feet. This country is going to be walking these baby steps right along with Sarah Palin, and when she falls, so will WE."

Linda writes: "Lisa Parker of Tulsa (below) you imbecile - you might want to look that up as clearly not of a high IQ. God help you!"

Lisa Parker of Tulsa: "I love Sarah Palin. Katie Couric is a liberal Barbie Doll who wants to destroy everyone with true values. Sarah is the best politician since Ronald Reagan. She will save America."

Shop HBO Comedy at Store.HBO.com Mary Crocker writes: "If McCain/Palin is elected I will have to consider moving to Canada! Note to "Carolyn" (below): how can you think Sarah came out ahead in this interview? She comes off as the clueless Christian conservative that she is. The only positive thing is her refreshing honesty, but that doesn't make me want to vote for her."

Campbell Brown of CNN: "As a journalist, my job is to get the truth, understand who [Sarah Palin] is, what she's about, whether she's qualified to be vice president. . . . If she were a man, would we be putting up with this? Would the campaign be treating her like this? Would she be coddled this way, cloistered this way? I don't think so."

CBS.com writes: The wall around Sarah Palin and the lack of access to her are "more restrictive rules on access than even President Bush uses in the White House."

Michael Goldfarb of the McCain campaign says: ""I know the media is throwing a temper tantrum about this [lack of access to Sarah Palin]. But [Sarah] was so beat up the first week when she came on, and this campaign has had fraught relations with the media ever since."

Sue Maluka of ZTV: "Palin is in the enviable position of not needing to make sense to appeal to her base. Her presence is enough. Many viewers will go to bed deeply alarmed. Others will be satisfied that McCain has made the right choice."

Alarait writes: "Is the country seriously considering electing John McCain and Sarah Palin? Country first? You've got to be kidding."

Alice Slatton Campbell writes: "How can any person concerned about the future of our country even remotely consider voting for Palin-McCain (and I do mean to list the "team" in this order). I really don't understand how she can have been/be a "good" small town may and governor. She is a classic example of the "Princess Diana" syndrome."

Linda writes: "What was the McCain campaign thinking when selecting Palin? Americans need to step back and think very hard about considering putting those two into office. Every American needs to take interest and watch interviews and debates and cast an educated vote in one of the most important elections in recent history."

Heide writes: "Sorry but Sarah Palin i think is a quick pick for the Republicans. She puts women back 60 years, and she does not know anything about foreign policy and did not even know about the Bush Doctrine. Why do people fall for this? If i were her i would be very worried what kind of job I would be doing as a V.P. And what if John McCain dies? Very, very scary. Do you people out there want to go through another four or eight years. of Republican stench? NOT ME! We need a total change and get AWAY from these greedy Republicans whose buddies are all the oil people and big businesses."

Readers Speak Out: Palin and Couric

Jackie N. writes: "Katie needs to take care of her own messed up career and leave Sarah Palin alone. She will be as good a VP as any man or woman will ever be or was. I've always liked Katie but now she has messed up as far as I'm concerned... Katie you need to lose your attitude with Sarah Palin.. She is a smart woman, and I thought you were, but if you are for Barack Obama,, then you are not as smart as I thought you were. America better wake up before it is too late."

Rodney writes: "Don't want a Harvard Graduated black man as president of these United States? TOO BAD. Rather have a Sarah Palin mould the future for your kids and grands, SO SAD."

Madelyn writes: "Couric's CBS interview is just unbelievable. Sarah Palin was finally caught without her lectern and speech and she failed miserably. Anyone who is considering voting for Mccain and Palin should have their head examined."

Pam writes: "It is incredible to me that someone could be so dense and not know it!"

Melissa writes: "Sarah Palin is an utter disgrace to all women. Despite holding a bachelor's degree, she has yet to convince me she is educated."

Jwaters writes: "Sarah Palin will be good for this country."

Des writes: "Katie Couric should have just interviewed John McCain instead of Sarah Palin. She asked nonsense historical questions of McCain. We learned nothing more in that interview other than Katie Couric's profound arrogance and subtle self- aggrandizement to promote her own career. It's not the right venue to impress the audience about her being a tough woman anchor. She just looked smaller in our eyes."

HB writes: "America this vote is to important to place someone in office who can not put together a complete sentence when expressing themselves. Palin has no more of a right to be running for Vice President than the Moose she shoots. We are seeing everyday what happens when you place and idiot in office. Banks failing, foreclosure, out of control housing prices falling, and gas prices soaring. Can we as a country afford to place Palin in the White House? You have had slack years of one slack President and you would even consider Palin anywhere in your country's well being."

H. Back writes: "She is definitely not an idiot, but perhaps an intelligent imbecile."

Sam writes: "To think that this woman could lead our country is scary. She seems to have the knowledge of a second grader coupled with the mind of a dictator. May god help us all."

Bob writes: "What really turns my blood cold about her is the number of people who will vote for her for no intelligent reason whatsoever. These people really scare me and what they are doing to this country. This would be even worse than King George and Wild Bill Hickock. Please, people, vote with your brains, not the other end of your body."

Sierra Club

Solarbut writes: "How disgusting you all are. Having never accessed your site previously, I didn't realize what a demarcation line I was crossing. You are so biased. When is that liberal, extremist Katie Couric's reign going to end? I will be so pleased to see her gone. Her disgusting snobbery and elitism when she interviews Conservatives makes me sick. When she smiles and shows her gums and her crooked nose and asymmetrical face becomes even more distorted, I feel as if I will regurgitate (or if you understand this more--puke) all over my computer. Ugh."

Cheryl writes: "Thinking of Palin taking over the presidency is like having a high school cheerleader step in to play quarterback. Both are absolutely hopeless scenarios!"

Alfredo writes: "Palin did help McCain, helped him lose thousands of votes and very likely the election."

George writes: "Sandy (below); I find your comment ignorant. So you're saying that a person in the office of V.P., that is next in line to be president, should just leave the foreign policy of the U.S. to generals? If that was so this world would have been ashes decades ago. Get real! Your nuke 'em or help 'em attitude expresses the ignorance of all who support a know-nothing candidate like Palin."

KS writes: "Palin is an airhead. McCain is "toast". Too bad for us Republicans."

Raye Ann writes: "Sarah Palin is just as Ronald Reagan was, a kick in the Democrat's behind. They can't understand real Americans, and never will. That's why they really do need to leave the country. Unfortunately for some reason they never do."

Nicki writes: "I can definitely see where CBS has definite bias where the candidates are concerned. Katie was totally rude to Sarah and in my opinion she looked like the witch."

Francesca writes: "Palin harmed McCain, he choose a wing-nut for a running mate."

T.Kaly writes: "I just can't believe this type of woman exists. She is good for a laugh but that is what we have Comedy Central for. She is going to represent the United States of America. There is no way women in this country are that stupid, so many of us women have worked very hard to be taken seriously. Wake up country she is going to lead this world into more trouble."

Terry writes: "I'm happy I read this article and could see how antiquated and uninformed Palin's attitudes on the environment are. McCain will NOT get my vote thanks to this interview."
