| Where
Was John McCain Born?
It's odd
that there's such interest in Barack Obama's birthplace
while there are almost no questions about John McCain's
place of birth.
Of
the two, McCain has the more exotic, or foreign,
birthplace. Obama was born in Honolulul, Hawaii. John
McCain was born in 1936 on a military installation in the
Panama Canal Zone, where his mother and father, a navy
officer, were stationed.
This
has raised doubts whether McCain is a "natural born.
According to the New York Times, "Mr. McCain’s
citizenship was established by statutes covering the
offspring of Americans abroad and laws specific to the
Canal Zone as Congress realized that Americans would be
living and working in the area for extended periods."
