| It's
almost all over. Soon, we'll know the result.
Whichever way you voted, this will go down in history
as one the most electrifying election campaigns
ever.

Couric: Loved by liberals, hated by
conservatives. We
list 5 election fools |
Either
way, it's historic: the first African
American president, or the oldest candidate to
become president.
We
think it's a done deal. We can't see Obama
losing this. Which poses the question: Why did
McCain lose?
First,
there's unpopular president Bush, not only his
endless war in Iraq but the economic crisis. People are afraid that a
president McCain would mean more of the same.
This
coincides with Sarah Palin's view: "I think the
Republican ticket represented too much of the status
quo, too much of what had gone on in these last
eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking
their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we
run up a $10 trillion debt in a Republican
administration? How have there been blunders with
war strategy under a Republican
administration?"
Second,
McCain ran a lousy campaign. The principled
independent willing to stand up to his own party
morphed into a mindless attack dog. McCain's Rovian campaign, masterminded by Steve
Schmidt, turned millions of people off -- did McCain
have no ideas of his own?
Third,
McCain looked old and tired. Many doubt that he
would make it through a first term.
Four,
the economy. McCain did not have good answers to the
meltdown on Wall Street. When he suspended his
campaign, we knew he'd lost the plot.
Five,
the big one: Sarah Palin. Not only was the Alaska
governor not ready to be vice president, she was
disastrous in interviews, showed no grasp of the
issues, gave the firm impression of being a dimwit, and
still had the arrogance to attempt a character
assassination of Obama.
Palin
is all about the desire for power without underlying
principles. The country turned on her very quickly.
The thought of her anywhere near the White House
terrified us.
